The Butterfly Lovers

China is full of many rich and wonderful traditional stories which you can enjoy. Every sunday from now I will tell you one.

“Once upon a time in China, long ago, there lived a young girl who dreamed of learning. Unfortunately she lived at a time when girls were expected to stay at home, marry the man that their father chose for them, and be obedient and quiet.

This young girl was called Zhu Ying Tai, and she yearned to be different. She was so desperate to be educated that she dressed herself up as a young man, and travelled to the city of Hangzhou to go to school.

While she was there, she met a handsome young man named Liang Shan Bo. They became best friends and spent most of their time together, sharing a love of learning and enjoying each other’s company. Liang never guessed that Zhu was actually a girl.

Time passed, and soon the young people had finished their studies and were ready to go home. Zhu realised that she had grown to love her best friend, but of course she could not tell him. Instead, she came up with a clever plan. She told Liang that she had a pretty younger sister of 16 years who was sure to please him and make him happy. She suggested that Liang visit the family to meet, and possibly marry, the younger sister. He agreed eagerly. Zhu travelled home, happy that soon she would be seeing her friend again.

A long year passed. Zhu almost gave up hope, but one happy day Liang arrived to meet the family. As soon as Liang saw Zhu he realised who she was, and he was overjoyed to find that she loved him. For a brief time, the couple were happy in each other’s love and looked forward to a future together.

Their happiness was short-lived. Zhu’s father announced that he had arranged for her to marry a rich man. Zhu pleaded with her father to change his mind, but he would not relent. Liang must leave immediately. Poor Liang left, heart-broken and alone. Soon, in his despair, he grew ill, and died.

Zhu heard of his death and she, too, was heart-broken. But she could do nothing to stop the arrangements for her marriage to the rich man. When the time for the wedding came, she travelled along the road on which Liang had died. Soon, her wedding procession came to Liang’s grave.

The skies grew stormy and the winds howled around the wedding procession as Zhu sobbed, wishing that she could join her true love rather than marry the rich man. Suddenly, it seemed that her prayers had been answered. A huge bolt of lightning struck the grave and it split open. In a flash, Zhu threw herself into the grave, so that she could be with Liang forever.

As suddenly as the lightning had struck, the storm disappeared and the skies cleared. Two beautiful butterflies were seen rising out of the grave and dancing together in the sunshine. Liang and Zhu were together, and would never be separated again.

  1. Can you love with your body and soul until the end of life? Can you believe truly in one of the biggest uncertainties? I am curious to know. When you are with someone, you look strongly for him/her only. You are so busy to sink into the deep relationship that you look with indifference to everything. No one will steal your mind when you love. You’ll be so busy that you can forget everything including your own person. True, all true relationship of the two lovers warriors succumb personality. Virtual love is empty of content.Virtual love makes you tired because you find with stupor that has no arms or eyes and you see that his/her clothes or what he/she says are not so expensive, but cheap, maybe too cheap for you, who looked with a critical eye and smiles …

Butterfly Lovers in 9dragons are the players who brings their love outside virtual life, in real life.

  2. Lol Soviet, lol. I don’t believe in virtual love, but some love stories inspired the love so I do believe in love. I will watch the movie, I see is one worth to watch.

  3. In 9d we only have a show off when comes to virtual love, I don’t think virtual love can substitute the real one. Anyway The Butterfly Lovers is another beautifull chinesses love story.

  4. virtual love in 9dragons is for non lifers. when I headr that someone wants to marry an avatar I say , “stupid”. maybe is a shemale, you never know.great love stories are inspired from real life stories not from virtual stories so better stick with real life when people talk about love.

  5. Hailed as China’s Romeo and Juliet, the legend of the Butterfly Lovers is set in Eastern Jin Dynasty of China and is a great love story. Whatever happens whether in real life or cyber space is all in your own hand. So do use internet wisely! I never meet someone from 9dragons as a couple in real life, so I guess all fails in my opinion.

  6. Many of 9Dragons females are shemales so what love story ? I laugh myself to death when I go in Hefei to a wedding. They are screw up kids, that it. The GMs and The Hermit are priests…laugh to death again and again. People who search love in a game are lonely people or people who wanst to run from their enviroment.

  7. In game relationships can real enough but the invisibility of the partner must be counter somehow and this results in generous doses of fantasizing for some people. Sometimes, there are those who easily lend themselves to daydreaming and loose their sense of reality. These people are prone to adorn their love one with characteristics and appearance of a hero from a novel. It is difficult to escape from this dream back into reality unharmed. After the first kiss the prince turns into a frog and the story comes to an unexpected conclusion.
Keep up the good work ST, I can’t wait for the next story.

  8. Virtual love is virtual by definition, and therefore cannot be real. All these online virtual worlds are filled with real people, interacting with each other and forming friendships and possibly finding virtual love. It is like in the story abobe, simple fantasy, but a lovely one.

  9. Is Virtual Love Real? ( I found this on net and is very interesting )

‘ Relationships in more general online communities are a bit different. Strangers meet online, and form bonds, with the expectation that they will never meet in real-life.

In many ways, this last caveat – never meeting in real-life – gives us a lot of freedom. We need not worry about how attractive we are, our age, race, riches, how we dress, or many of the other things that we commonly worry about in real world relationships. We can be whomever we want to be, and explore aspects of ourselves that we may be too shy to reveal in a real world setting.

Some may argue that virtual relationships are more real for this reason. In virtual worlds we are communicating on a mind-to-mind level without the limitations placed upon us by our physical appearance.

Not surprising, this anonymity can also become a weakness. Some people use this feature to present themselves in a way that will engender pity or sympathy from others and then utilize those feelings to obtain monetary or sometimes merely emotional gain.

Many people who have been deceived in this way become disillusioned with online relationships, and prefer to stay away from forming any ties in virtual venues. There is also a very negative social stigma that is attached to those who have been deceived in this way, because they are seen as naive and foolish.

Confidence tricksters exist in the real world as well, but again, their reach is more limited, and it takes greater effort to deceive someone in the physical world where your appearance can be used to judge you. ‘

If the game don’t work, let’s fall in LOVE. MAKE LOVE !

  10. Acclaim servers are down for hours so I will enjoy this wuxia love series. Virtual love don’t exist, is a poor way to express feelings of love.

  11. “One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life: That word is love.” – Sophocles

“To love is to suffer. To avoid suffering one must not love. But then one suffers from not loving. Therefore to love is to suffer, not to love is to suffer. To suffer is to suffer. To be happy is to love. To be happy then is to suffer. But suffering makes one unhappy. Therefore, to be unhappy one must love, or love to suffer, or suffer from too much happiness. I hope you’re getting this down.” -Woody Allen

Is that possible in 9dragons ? no

  12. It is great to see that people still adores love stories. Till the end of time they will keep inspiring humanity.Love is a great feeling and i think makes you a better person, even it is virtual or real.

  13. Awww, SweetAngelita and Cora are more grumpier then me I see 😀
I am not a fan of in-game weddings as some ppl happines makes me undappy 😀 But let the ppl have fun 😀 I have nothing against it as is one of the last things you can do after you topped the boredome and nothing else left .
Sometimes in-game relations (as friendship or love) gets moved into real world, as ppl keep contact outside game too (thru mails, messengers, vidcams, photo’s, etc). I know ppl that changed their life, got divorced and moved with their in-game lover, or ppl that found their “match” in the game or ppl that build great friendship in this game (friendship that crossed borders). Is nothing blamable. We are in essence social ppl. In a MMO not building friendship and aquintances is strange.
The love comes in differnet forms. Love for a friend, love for a lover.
I cannot call myself a “buterfly lover” as my love is and was always detached, not passionate. I might be a cold person at 1st view, as i never “roared” my love for a person. I love my friends dearly and I had quite few in 9D that crossed the game border into my life, and I do not regret a second. They are great ppl and i cherish them dearly (MauLin, my healer from FD lvls, Hanshi-Dan, my BM and my dear friend- both from different countries, we spend holidays together everytime we can). Is nothing strange. And I am happy that from this part this game gave me something that has value in real life. I met wonderful ppl witch i can say i love them dearly.

Maybe being a mature player I do not loose control of what is real and what is illusion. In matter of “love” I suggest all to do same. Detachment is the best way to “love” and loving a friend is nothing to blame ppl.
And as I never been shady about my life, here’s a pic with me and Hanshious on winter hollidays, as friendship can cross borders of game-real life. (i am the “shemale” ^^ lmao)
