Searching the meaning of an avatar

The spiritual meaning

In HinduismAvatar or Avatara

(SanskritअवतारIAST Avatāra),often translated into English as incarnation, literally means descent(avatarati) and usually implies a deliberate descent from higher spiritual realms to lower realms of existence for special purposes. Descents that are of importance are mainly those of the Supreme Being which are plenary and marked with superhuman qualities. (from wiki)

The tehnical meaning

An avatar is a computer user’s representation of himself/herself or alter ego, whether in the form of a three-dimensional model used in computer games, a two-dimensional icon (picture) used on Internet forums and other communities,or a text construct found on early systems such as MUDs. It is an “object” representing the embodiment of the user. The term “avatar” can also refer to the personality connected with the screen name, or handle, of an Internet user. (from wiki)

  1. Avatars are not categorized as good or evil; they are neutral from our world point of view. The desire is to shape the world to their own design making it a perfect world. As for virtual world, avatars exist outside of time and space. Utopia lives between, in our minds.

  2. For me, Avatar is a man who can bind light it is the same as a Alchemist (transformator).Bring some light in avatar world.

  3. Forgot something : in Hindu mythology they say when the sin on earth increases than the almighty God will take human form and come to earth to kill demons and that is the meaning of avatars in layman language…it’s actuall meaning is incarnation of divine.

  4. This is quite interesting in the idea of lots of lifes for avatar…in games for examples, they die, than ” incarnate” again, so you can’t feel up the death.

  5. Second life UTOPIA goes up in Romania a lot. Romania hit 15th position in a virtual world top. In LA conference UTOPIA in virtual wolrd was push to the word LUDOPIA.
